The British Virgin Islands (BVI) is a collection of islands located next to the United States Virgin Islands (USVI). The BVI has a governor, which is appointed by the King and locally elected Premier and governing body. The population is roughly 30,000 inhabitants for all 50 of the islands, cay’s and rocks that make up the BVI.

Tortola, the main island, has many beautiful white sand beaches, restaurants, bars and is home to Sage Mountain National Park. It also boasts the Botanic Gardens and the Callwood Rum Distillery located in Cane Garden Bay.

Norman Island is known for the infamous Willy T bar and restaurant. This is a great spot to get lunch, drinks and to take the plunge by jumping off of the top deck of the boat! This island boasts claims to Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island with tales of buried treasure and pirate stories.

Cooper Island has a lovely, eco friendly resort, which boasts beautiful sunsets, amazing food and a well stocked boutique. The main bay is all turtle grass so you are almost guaranteed to see a turtle if you are snorkeling in the bay!

Peter Island is home to the Peter Island Resort, which is scheduled to open fall 2023. The resort was badly damaged by Hurricane Irma in 2017 and was closed to the public which the private owner rebuilt the spa, marina village, hotel, restaurant and villas.

Virgin Gorda is a spectacular island. The Baths National Park is located one end of the island. There is a path that takes you from Devil’s Bay through the giant boulders and into the famous cave area and to the main bay. While exploring this island, you can visit the Copper Mine National Park, Savannah Bay, Gorda Peak and Leverick Bay. Richard Branson’s islands of Moskito and Necker are just off of the northern point of Virgin Gorda.

Jost Van Dyke is where the fun’s at! Head on over to White Bay where you can bar hop to your hearts content. Soggy Dollar Beach bar is here with the legendary painkiller cocktail and the beach is a wonder to still on and relax for the day. In Great Harbour, which is the main bay on the island, there is a lovely community of restaurants, including Corsairs and the notorious Foxy’s Tamarind Bar. Foxy has long since hung up his guitar from live performances, but sometimes he grace’s the establishment with his presence and hilarious jokes and stories.

Many Activities to do in the BVI

There are many activities to do in the BVI, which range from quiet and laid back to adventurous. The BVI is a popular sailing destination so there are numerous day sail boats which operate to various islands. You could try your hand at SCUBA diving, E-foiling, kayak around mangroves, partake in a game of mini golf, admire the amazing sunsets, ride horses on the beach, sun bathe, and even zip line!
